East Metro Twin Cities

Volunteering with East Metro AFS

East Metro AFS has many exciting volunteer opportunities that allow people of all ages to make new friends from around the world and within their communities while working toward global peace. These opportunities range from a few hours a month to more in depth time commitments. They also range from self directed activities where one can utilize leadership and creative skills to pre-planned group activities working under the direction of other volunteers. Some of these opportunities include:

  1. Orientations - for students hosted here in the East Metro area.
  2. Student/Family Liaisons - providing contact and support for exchange students and their host families on a monthly basis.
  3. Promotions and media
  4. Youth Ambassador Organizers - organizing a few evenings during the school year where our hosted students make presentations to members of the community.
  5. School representatives – be the contact to your local high school for AFS, ensuring students hosted are doing well, the school has materials needed for those interested in going abroad, and providing recognition at least once during the school year to school facility for supporting our organization.
  6. Bus Chaperone - Chaperoning a bus of exchange students who will be returning to their home countries end of June 2009 after a year in the U.S. from the Twin Cities to Chicago. Volunteer chaperones must be at least 25 years of age.
  7. Volunteers to develop and coordinate one or more fundraising activities.
  8. Host Family Finders - Follow up on current leads and utilize creative skills to locate families to host exchange students.
  9. Any other ideas? We are certainly open to suggestions.
